Governor Macquarie's Legacy

Lachlan Macquarie became Australia's fifth Governor on New Year's Day in 1810, and is often referred to as the "Father of Australia".

He held a humanitarian view towards ex-convicts, and promoted cultural and civil amenities such as libraries, schools and a savings bank, and implemented a major plan of public works which began with the re-organisation and re-naming of Sydney streets and appointed the first poet laureate.

The man who left such a great legacy to our country is remembered at Macquarie Links - it is part of the vision that Macquarie Links will be a legacy to be enjoyed by future generations. In the Macquarie Links Estate all roads and streets will be named in honour of Governor Macquarie, his family and contemporaries.

The construction of the estate commenced in 1996, and the golf course has been designed by internationally-renowned architect Robin Nelson.

Designed as a classic course along the lines of the great Scottish links, Macquarie Links International, with its manicured fairways and greens, will reward Members with a lifetime of golfing pleasure.
